In mid-December a spell of very cold weather started in Western Bulgaria with temperatures reaching -15 Celsius in Sofia and -22 Celsius in other parts of the region. I was shooting for a story about the severe weather when I passed by the hot water springs near the Banya Bashi mosque downtown. The scenery immediately fascinated me, thickly clad and hooded figures walking through the water vapors like ghosts with the rays of the morning sun lightening up parts of the steam.
I spent several minutes trying to frame the people so that they would appear as silhouettes against the mist. I liked best this shot with the woman in the heavy winter coat and the man walking with his water bottle.
