The U.S. Navy’s Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) represent a whole new type of warship with increased versatility compared to existing ships.  LCS are able to operate in relatively shallow water, have a reduced radar cross-section and thermal signature and can be reconfigured according to mission demands (mission modules for anti-submarine warfare, mine hunting, surface warfare and special ops).
